"LAVENDER and tea tree oils may alter sex hormone levels and should be used with caution, especially by children, researchers say. They have blamed the essential oils for the growth of breasts in three otherwise healthy boys."
"Breast growth in males before puberty is very rare and usually attributable to something in the child's environment, said Clifford Bloch, a US hormone specialist whose suspicions were raised when he examined a four-year-old with newly grown breasts. The boy's mother had been massaging him with a lavender-based "healing balm", and the breasts disappeared after it was discontinued."
"Two other boys with breast development also used lavender products - hair gel, soap, skin lotion or a shampoo that also contained tea tree oil - and they, too, quickly lost the tissue after changing products."
