Deadline nearing for life-saving program
" Time is running out for schools still wanting to receive a free automatic external defibrillator, the device used to restart a heart after a sudden cardiac arrest. "

" Last year, the Ohio General Assembly set aside $2.5 million to pay for the aggressive plan to equip every school in Ohio with one or more defibrillators, appointing Akron General Medical Center as the administrator of that program. "

" "Survival rates can be greatly improved with defibrillation within three to five minutes of arrest," said Dr. Terry A. Gordon, a cardiologist with Northeast Ohio Cardiovascular Specialists and a member of the medical staff at Akron General who is directing the project. "

" He said he knows of eight cases in which lives were saved because of a school's defibrillator.
