" Iona could use LogicBlaze code under the Apache license, so the deal is motivated more by LogicBlaze's development expertise than any product. This deal also differs from other recent SOA consolidation events in that Iona already offers an open-source ESB--so, at least initially, Iona will not be using the acquisition to enter a new market. The combination of the two will mean that more ESB capabilities are available for free, especially as Red Hat's JBoss and others have competitive open-source ESBs. However, an ESB is only a relatively small part of SOA, so other ESB vendors are responding to the open-source threat by broadening their functionality."
