"The current Complex PSA test measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, in the blood. The higher the PSA level, the greater the likelihood of prostate cancer. But the test has its drawbacks. Cancer isn't the only thing that can drive up PSA levels. Inflammation and noncancerous enlargement of the prostate can cause a spike in PSA. So the test can lead to so-called "false negatives" and "false positives" -- meaning sometimes it will miss cancer when it is present or indicate cancer
