Research firm Castle Connolly Medical solicited nominations from doctors and hospitals. The Men's Health story said men have a natural fear of doctors from as early as circumcision to adulthood and prostate exams. " " Three of the Birmingham physicians work at the Kirklin Clinic of UAB Health System: Suzanne Oparil, cardiologist; John Rothrock, neurologist; and L. Keith Lloyd, urologist. The other noted doctor is retired from the Kirklin Clinic and is now in private practice, David S.H. Bell, endocrinologist. " "Children's Hospital is hosting a bone marrow and blood drive on Thursday and Friday in the hospital's main lobby, 1600 Seventh Ave. South. The marrow drive begins at 7 a.m. and the blood drive at 9 a.m. Both last until 3 p.m. " " Potential bone marrow donors will fill out paperwork and get a mouth swab to register with the National Marrow Donor Program. Registration puts the potential donor on an international list used to match donors to adults and children in need. " " More than 30 children a year at Children's Hospital require bone marrow transplants to cure cancer or genetic conditions. Finding a suitable donor is often difficult, especially for minority populations. " "People who live in communities with a lot of guns are more likely to kill themselves, a new study says. " " The findings, the researchers say, add weight to the argument that when people have less access to guns, they are less likely to commit suicide. Earlier research raised the question of whether people intent on suicide would, absent a gun, simply switch to another equally lethal method.
