Here's a lovely way to add a natural, decorative accent for the holidays while celebrating some of their deeper significance as well.
Lindsay Olives is offering 20-inch wreaths of freshly cut olive branches from California groves, along with a 12-inch gold metal hanger, for $50 -- with 100 percent of the proceeds from the wreath sales going to America's Second Harvest: The Nation's Food Bank Network.
The fresh green branches of the hand-woven wreaths dry to a lovely silvery green. They come from trees throughout the Central Valley, says company spokeswoman Judy Rowcliffe.
"We wanted to be part of what goes on around the holiday season, but it's a very crowded time. Olives themselves are a traditional part of the Thanksgiving and Christmas meal, and we knew we didn't need to promote olives themselves."
