" " Dr. Lavern J. Holyfield, Director of Faculty Development at the Baylor College of Dentistry and a 2007-08 ADEA Leadership Institute Fellow, is the inaugural Jeanne C. Sinkford Scholar in the ADEA Leadership Institute. The award, made possible by GlaxoSmithKline, the National Dental Association, and ADEA, supports a dental school faculty member from a minority group underrepresented in dental education who has been selected for the ADEA Leadership Institute. The honor comes with an award of $15,000 made possible by the three organizations. " " Dr. Sinkford was the first woman dean of an American dental school, serving Howard University from 1975 to 1991. Dr. Sinkford is presently Associate Executive Director of the ADEA Center for Equity and Diversity, which focuses on recruitment and retention of women, underrepresented minorities, and low income students in the dental profession and academic dentistry.
