"Some women can regain limited access to a constipation drug withdrawn after being linked to a higher chance of heart attack and stroke, federal officials said Friday. Women younger than 55 with irritable bowel syndrome with constipation and chronic constipation and who meet specific guidelines will be allowed access to Zelnorm, the Food and Drug Administration said. Their doctors will have to decide whether the drug is medically necessary, and the patients must sign consent forms acknowledging they have been informed of the potential risks and benefits."
